many people are under the impression that if they blow under the illegal limit, they are in the clear. this is incorrect.
even if you blow under, but you still show signs if inibility to safely and efficiently operate a vehicle, you can potentially be charged.
there is also a myth that if you pound copius amounts of coffee, this will sober you up. you may become more "aware of your surroundings" but it does not exclude you from the effects of alcohol.
and the myth that consuming large amounts of food will sober you up. this will only keep your sugar levels stable which will make you feel alert, but will not immune you from side effects of your drinks.

MIP basics

if you are caught with alcohol in your system and you are under age, the punishments can be severe or minimal, depending on a few things.
the fines will vary by your age, who you are with (if you're with your parents, the odds of you getting away with it increase) and where you are.
you can spend up to 60 days in jail depending on what the judge says and a fine of 400 doallars is very common.
if you show up on your court date on time however, the judge may reduce your fine.

2nd and 3rd offenses

for a 2nd offense regarding a DUI, you will spend a minum of 90 days in jail. you liscense will be revoked for three years and you may be appointed alcohol evaluation and treatment if ordered by the judge
a 3rd offense is really bad news, you will spend three years in jail. you must complete DUI school. if you fail to pass this course within 90 days, your liscense may be revoked forever. and your fines may be from 10,000 to 20,000 dollars
